Blonde Hair, Don't Care!

The blonde are mocked for their synonymity with idiocy; yet prized and adored as symbols of beauty and desire. These two warring, diametrically opposed motifs regarding women: desire and derision collide powerfully for the golden-headed. Blonde hair is as much a genetic trait as a cultural symbol.

Choosing to accept this blonde hair or any loud hair color/neon colors such as pink, green, white, shocking or regla red in a sea of dark hair takes on even greater significance. It is the choice to stand-out, to be bold, to be brave. To make a statement. It attracts attention, admiration and controversy. It challenges and it entices.

Becoming blonde was also hard work even though mine WAS NOT INTENDED. I asked for my usual hair color, but the senior stylist said that I already have too many colors on my hair c/o 2 ombre hair make-overs. He advised that I should opt for a "Color Correction Treatment" which meant that my hair would be bleached so that whatever color I intended afterwards would look "pantay" or even.
Six hours in a salon, bleached, washed and repeated. The second, darker color I wanted DID NOT APPEAR. Hindi tumalab.
1. Bleach was applied. Painful Process. (3 hours)
2. Bleached hair = Super Saiyan yellow (Rinsed, Dried)
3. Second, darker color was applied (3 more hours)
4. Bleached hair won. Shit.

I've come to accept that THIS IS going to be my change for 2014; one that changes not only how you look, but how you’re perceived. As I've said on my Facebook:Paninindigan ko tong kaartehan ko. PANININDIGAN KO TO. Ayoko ng bumalik at sunugin buhok ng 3 hours more. NO.

Pros of being Blonde:
1. A good change
2. I get to cosplay these:
Milly Ashford from Code Geass and Annie from Shingeki No Kyojin.

1. Soooo hard and expensive to maintain.
2. Sometimes attracts unwanted attention (minsan ok, minsan hindi)
3. Good luck sa business meetings.
4. Pangit pag lumabas na ang black roots. ARGH.

Luckily, my friends and family have all been VERY SUPPORTIVE! Thank you so much for all your words of encouragement. Ipu-push ko na to hanggang new year!

A Double Wedding

Six families, gathered together in the mountains of Tagaytay, to celebrate my cousins' double wedding, set in a peaceful garden. Vows were exchanged as the sun set and we dined heartily in a Spanish Colonial Themed Villa. All weddings are joyous occasions (except for Lorca's Blood Wedding and Game of Thrones' Red Wedding) and the two couples made for double the happiness.
My sister and I went with our driver instead of our parents. We went to our product launch first in Pasay, ate at Pancake House and did our make-up and hair in Petron (highway) going to Tagaytay.
Our beautiful mother was a ninang!
Dad rarely dresses up, so this is a very special day for the family. He looks really good! Would you believe that these two are in their mid-50s? They look so young!
Mikimoto pearls and blue Paperdoll dress from my mother, Mark's old leather belt, red suede shoes and gold Casio watch.

With my beautiful cousin, Marjoe. Her dress was made/sewn by her grandmother.
 With my niece, Lexine.
 A  dreamy garden wedding.

Our two beautiful brides, Anne and Marjoe.
Tito Joey, Marjoe and Tita Marissa.

Anne and my cousin, Mark with the whole family!
My cousins' beautiful wedding reception. Reminded me of Game of Thrones
 Buffet and dance floor.

Red and Gold. I can't believe they got this for free. Villa De Oro is apparently owned by a relative.

Jesus and my cousin Marjoe. My cousin Mark (Marjoe's younger brother) with his bride, Anne.

 All the single ladies.

I enjoy weddings in our family for bringing our entire clan and other clans together (we sound like ninjas LOL). Even my dad looked polished as MC! I was glad to attend after a successful business launch event earlier in the day. Sometimes, you can fit in business and family all in one day.

Congratulations to my cousins, Marjoe, Mark and their respective spouses!
We wish you nothing but the best and all the happiness in the world!

In The Land Of Gods And Monsters

"With light bulbs in our pockets
we light the darkened forest."
"On the mossy turf we'll dance till
our feet shatter, our toes will splinter."
"Tripping through the misty streams of light,
so beautiful, I stare in awe."
Just a quick update before everything gets busy.
These photos were taken  from 2009 to 2011.
Lyrics are from "Over The Mountains" by Eisley because Lana's
"Gods And Monsters" lyrics did not fit the pictures.
Lana's song is very cool though.
Been listening to it during chilled nights.

Anyhow, here's my playlist when I want to escape to mountains, the land of gods and monsters, be one with nature and relax:
1. A Walk by Tycho
2. I Don't Like It Like This by The Radio Dept.
3. Past Is Prologue by Tycho

Paper Dolls

Today is my vintage dress, wardrobe feature. Vintage clothing in unusual cuts, colors and beautiful materials has always been my passion. Recently, I was lucky to find so many exquisite new pieces. Whilst I've been busy finding everyone's presents for Christmas, my hunt for the right present yielded some exciting finds for myself too!
First up, we have the light turquoise Lolita dress in chiffon, with gorgeous ruffling, embroidery and a cute bow. The color, fabric and design reference the Harajuku take on Victorian styling, whilst the cut provides a more contemporary hemline. It's equal parts Alice in Wonderland and Hime-Gal. A perfect match for my rekindled love of Kuroshitsuji and Code Geass. Just say: "Yesu, mai rorudo!" I found this gem from Dorotee Sweetlips-(the owner is Margie's friend)-a lolita shop that used to dress Alodia for TV shows. They also provided the adorable Anna Sui floral purse. (If you've been a reader of this blog, you'll know I'm a big Anna Sui fan. I'm very much thrilled to have the purse as my make-up kit)

I can't resist florals, however. Particularly, these sleeveless blue, pink and black dresses that are perfect for everyday jaunts!
These three dresses are of varied providence. The light-blue polk-a-dot is a vintage piece bought in Sydney for me by Mark's mum. It was a lovely pasalubong that she brought along for me when she came to Manila. It's a doll-like summery dress with intricate touches. Thank you, Tita! The one in the middle is from my grandmother; a blue silk dress form the 1960s. I took up the hem to give it a more modern edge. Finally, we have this Mad Men, 1960s pattern dress with an A-line cut. It's mod all the way.
I found the green dress on sale in Sydney (for an amazing price, too!); whilst I picked up the other two in a bazaar. They fit me like a glove, whilst their patterns brighten up my day! The first two dresses are not vintage at all but the black and white number is. I found it in a bazaar in Sydney but it had a longer hem line.
I found this adorable patterned skirt at the mall while the custom vintage skirt is from my grandmother, as well as the white shirt. I don't usually favour white, however, the design and the cut were so entrancing, that I made an exception.
We have a wave of bespoke, silk pieces, circa 1960s in mint condition from my grandmother (thanks Lola!); as well as some gorgeous 60s inspired pieces I found myself. My favourite is a luxurious silk chinoiserie jacket that now serves as my daring cover up for formal dinners and power jacket with leggings and sneakers for streetwear. I also adore my light beige floral cover up from my mother from the 80s and shimmery, see-through black number from my lola.

Finally, another influence of Black Butler/Code Geass and the Victorian/Lolita/Princess-ey fashion: black, chiffon, lace, tule and ruffles. Mark loves me in these. Out of all the style I usually wear (50s, Boheme, rock/edgy)  he loves me in fancy, dressy, (almost) period-like pieces. Think a milder version of gothic lolita and european private school girl/doll, so when I saw these dresses, I HAD to get them. I'm glad that he also shares my love for gothic lolita and period pieces. We jive like that. And oh, I got them from a bazaar in the mall.

Well, that's everything for now! New dresses for a new year. Through vintage and refreshed takes on aesthetics from earlier periods, I move forward, but with respect for the past.

Moving Forward With Kris

This is my good friend Kris. We have been friends since high school, one of the very few I've kept. Our friendship blossomed because of our mutual love for anime and yaoi. I don't think I have ever met anyone who has "outwatched" me on the latest shounen ai/yaoi series/movies, you name it. I have found my fan-girl soulmate. What I didn't realize was that Kris has been following my blog and has been commenting really kind words that helped me get through some tough moments in my life. Sometimes I would be feel down and I'd read lovely comments or personal messages on my blog and on my facebook from my readers who would unknowingly lift up my spirits. Kris was one of them. Upon hearing about her recent break-up with A HUGE CHEATER (allcapswithfeelings), I decided to give back the support and kindness she has shown and give her a make-over because as we all know, the best revenge is to look good, feel good and be successful.
This is Kris' before and after photo. Because of hardwork from the gym (we're in the same gym btw), she went down from 150lbs to 120lbs. An amazing feat from this beautiful girl!
Kris doesn't really put on make-up because her ex told her that he preferred "simple girls" who looked "all natural." This surprised us because his chick/s now or whatever, was/were the complete opposite of what he had described and what he wanted Kris to look. Right. Well, we can all forget about him and his standards. Kris was going to learn how to put on make-up, be more daring with fashion and experiment with her looks!
After watching Disney's Frozen, we had a nice lunch at a Japanese place and then went shopping! We bought all of the basic things she'll need for make-up: concealer, eyebrow pencil, lipstick, blush, eyeshadow palette etc.
After the thrill of buying new make-up, I taught her how to apply them. So basically, she did all the work here, eyebrows, eye-make up etc. I'm very impressed because she's such a fast learner and was willing to acquire new skills. Her openness to experience and change gained my admiration even more.
Kris said that she always wore T-shirt and jeans. Well, not when you're with me! Hahaha! I asked her to try on some nice dresses with a cardigan over them since she's not quite ready to wear sleevless yet. One step at a time. I was floored by the result. Every sales lady in the store was gushing over how beautiful she looked and how the dresses complemented her porcelain skin. Sobrang inggit kame!!! Ang ganda ng friend ko!

She bought every thing she tried on. I was soooo happy!
Even without the dresses, I noticed a lot of guys eyeing her while we were walking around the mall. I had a huge smirk on my face. I felt so accomplished and I think Kris felt more confident and happier. With over 330+ likes and comments from friends and strangers, Kris' photos received the attention and admiration she deserved. I believe that she is now stronger, happier and more confident.  A lot of painful things may have happened to her but I believe that they all happened for a reason.

To those who are still in the process of moving on, here are some tips I gave in my

1. Travel, travel, travel. Magsoulsearching ka. Pagnagtravel ka, ibahin mo environment mo. Magiiba din pakiramdam mo.

2. Make-over time! Magpaspa, magpamani-pedi, full body massage, new hairstyle.

3.  Focus on your goals in life. Ibaon mo muna sarili mo sa trabaho para makalimot. Kapag busy ka, mahirap siyang alalahanin. Take your "Single Phase" para gumawa ng paraan na mapaunlad ang sarili. Learn new things, acquire new skills. Ganyan.

4. Entertain your self, learn how to be happy alone. Watch A LOT of TV shows as in mga series, anime, american lahat. I recommend Modern Family, The Big Bang Theory, Downton Abbey for feel-good vibes. The Walking Dead, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Suits, How I Met Your Mother.. Lahatin mo na.

5. GYM! Mag-gym ka! Itakbo mo lahat ng ka-badtripan mo sa buhay. Malay mo, may mameet ka pa dun.

6. Dare to be Daring. Climb a mountain, run a marathon, take up a new sport, go to the unknown destinations, meet new people, taste new food, change your hair, change your wardrobe.

To summarize:
